Katja Schuurman voelt zich emotioneel labiel

AMSTERDAM - Het drukke leven wordt Katja Schuurman soms echt teveel. ,,Ik ben emotioneel labiel. Dan zit ik ineens te huilen", onthult de artistieke duizendpoot deze week.

Katja reist voor haar werk de hele wereld af, maakte onlangs een film en staat op het punt voor BNN een nieuwe talkshow te maken..

"Er gebeurt zoveel in mijn leven en ik zie zoveel in de landen die ik bezoek voor mijn werk. Ik heb alleen te weinig tijd om het een plek te geven en dat is jammer.", vertelt Katja in Gala.

Overigens is ze wel rustiger geworden, mede dankzij Tao, de Oosterse levensfilosofie die draait om het in harmonie komen met de eeuwige wetten van de natuur.

"Van tevoren niet bedenken welke kant het leven opgaat, maar het laten gebeuren. Daarin zijn nog hele werelden te ontdekken voor mij."

7. heb ik zo'n 300 jaar ongeluk gespaard en ben ik zo'n 67 keer gestorven omdat ik die verdomde kettingmails niet heb doorgestuurd.

Dick Bos verschrikt de onderwereld met rake klappen en snedig taalgebruik. Tekenaar Alfred Mazure wekte deze stripheld tot leven. De voorstelling wordt een bloedstollende thriller met deze gentlemanspeurder en zijn schepper Alfred Mazure in de hoofdrollen. In deze filmische theaterproductie, in de traditie van 'Ingeblikt', houden film en theater zich in een prettig evenwicht.

De communicatiedeskundigen vallen welhaast over elkaar heen om mevrouw een pluim in haar derrière te steken. “Trots is een interessante emotie, heel erg Unox.” Of “Nederlanders zijn op zoek naar een eigen identiteit en we zijn er tamelijk onzeker over. AMSTERDAM - Massaal is gereageerd op mijn stelling dat overspannenheid een gezonde reactie is op een ongezonde situatie: lichaam en geest gaan in staking door langdurige en subtiele krenking.


Doorgaans nemen patiënten geen genoegen met een psychologische verklaring alléén. Zij eisen van de psycholoog ook een adequate behandeling. Dat is ook terecht, zeker wanneer je toch al gewend bent aan het kortste eind te trekken.

In de praktijk is het, echter, zeldzaam dat patiënten zich laten adviseren. De hulpverlener die zijn therapeutische parels keer op keer voor de zwijnen gooit, loopt daarmee risico zelf overspannen te raken. Desondanks, bij wijze van uitzondering, en geheel tegen mijn psychologische principes in, krijgt u toch een beproefd recept ter ont-kwetsing van uw gemoed.

1) Gedraag u, voor onbepaalde tijd, als demente bejaarde. Alles wat u vergeet, uit uw handen laat vallen of anderszins lichamelijk niet onder controle heeft, hoort bij de ziekte en wordt zelfs een beetje leuk naarmate u meer opgaat in uw rol.

2) Kies bewust voor het tempo van een gehandicapte slak. U mag rustig een paar uur doen over het bijknippen van uw snor of het aannaaien van een knoop, en bedenk: hoe langzamer u handelt, des te sneller u geneest.

3) Laat alleen iemand op bezoek komen die u een warm hart toedraagt, en nooit langer dan een halfuur. Als u geen zin heeft om te praten, werk dan samen aan uw 5000 stukjeslegpuzzel.

4) Hanteer een militair regiem wat betreft opstaan (08.00 uur), naar bed gaan (22.30 uur) en de maaltijden. Als u een gat in de dag slaapt en ’s nachts rondspookt, raakt u geestelijk nog meer op drift.

5) Vermijd alles wat drukte geeft, zoals lawaaierige cafeetjes, volle winkelstraten, kletserige plakkers, flitsende televisieprogramma’s of zeurderige familieleden; zoek liever de stilte op met een vishengel aan het water. Uw hersencellen smeken om met rust gelaten te worden.

6) Zie uw allergie voor verplichtingen als een zegen, en laat zo veel mogelijk anderen de kar trekken met de gedachte: hoe meer ik word gemist, des te meer jullie mij waarderen als ik ooit weer meedoe. En geniet heimelijk van de macht die uw eigen onmacht bij anderen teweegbrengt.

7) Ga ervan uit dat u minstens een jaar uit de roulatie bent. Alles minder is gewoon meegenomen.

8) Pieker met overgave en zet uw hersenspinsels op papier, net zolang tot u het navelstaren moe bent.

Het allerbelangrijkste is dat u uw kring van relaties opschoont, al was het maar om te voorkomen dat u weer als deurmat wordt gebruikt. Mocht u tot het inzicht komen dat u alleen geschikt bent als deurmat, laat dan eindelijk uw verzet varen, en bedenk: het maakt niet uit wat u bent, als u maar nodig bent.

AMSTERDAM - Overspannenheid is in onze huidige samenleving een veel voorkomende kwaal. Het is een nare psychische aandoening, vooral omdat het herstel al gauw een jaar duurt. Voor de argeloze buitenstaander is er doorgaans weinig ziekelijks aan de overspannen persoon te ontdekken.

Het is de patiënt niet aan te zien dat hij lijdt aan lusteloosheid, gebrek aan concentratie, emotionele leegheid, overgevoeligheid voor drukte en in het bijzonder: een verlammende weerzin tegen verplichtingen. De buitenwacht reageert daarom al gauw met indirecte verdachtmakingen van aanstellerij (‘waar kunt u het dan zo moeilijk mee hebben’).

Dit gegeven maakt één ding heel duidelijk: de ernst van de kwaal is alleen te bevatten voor eenieder die zelf een periode van overspannenheid heeft meegemaakt. Voor de patiënt zelf is het zaak om te bevatten hoe hij geestelijk zo verzwakt is geraakt.

Bedrijfsartsen, reïntegratie-experts en andere lieden die er belang bij hebben om de patiënt weer snel in het arbeidsproces te loodsen, hanteren clichématig de verklaring van overbelasting: ‘uw mentale veerkracht is gebroken omdat u meer van uzelf gevraagd heeft dan u aankunt.’ Een minder perfectionistische instelling in combinatie met een lichter takenpakket zou dan de oplossing zijn.

Maar, in mijn dertig jaar ervaring als psycholoog is nog nooit een eerzuchtig mens door hard te werken over de kling gejaagd. Ook is het te simplistisch om te denken dat overspannenheid een logische reactie is als gevolg van een tumultueuze levensfase (‘u heeft ook wel veel meegemaakt, zeg’). Nee, één van de belangrijkste oorzaken van overspannenheid is langdurige en subtiele krenking.

Opvallend en vervelend is dat de overspannen patiënt zich vaak niet eens bewust is dat hij, stelselmatig, door anderen verbaal getreiterd wordt. Maar, het onderbewuste registreert elke krenking als een nijvere boekhouder, waardoor uiteindelijk de spreekwoordelijke gifdruppel de afvalemmer doet overlopen. Het ego breekt (decompenseert) als beschermingsreactie tegen nog meer schadelijke prikkels van buitenaf. Zo bekeken is een toestand van overspannenheid een gezonde (lichamelijke) reactie op een ongezonde (relationele) situatie.

Een andere belangrijke oorzaak van overspannenheid is een sluimerende verlatingsangst. Deze verlatingsangst kan betrekking hebben op de eigen partner (hoe lang houdt hij het nog met mij uit) of de heimelijke wens om de eigen partner zelf te verlaten (hoe lang hou ik het nog met hem uit). Evengoed kan de scheidingsangst betrekking hebben op een gevoelde dreiging van verlies van werk en inkomsten, waardoor de zekerheid van het bestaan helemaal op losse schroeven komt te staan. En als er iets is dat het lichaam en de geest uitput, dan is het wel een aanhoudende emotionele toestand van zorg en angst.

Natuurlijk, de moderne maatschappij is er één waarin mensen op hun tenen moeten lopen om het hoge tempo van vernieuwende veranderingen bij te benen. Maar, het is niet de druk van veeleisendheid waaronder de mens bezwijkt. Nee, het is veeleer het totale gebrek aan genegenheid dat de mens nekt, als waarschuwing voor hem om zich op zijn relaties te bezinnen.
