Europe's first mobile WiMax network went live for demonstration purposes this week in Amsterdam, courtesy of a company by the name of WorldMax. Once the network goes completely live later this summer, Amsterdam residents will get 1Mbps/128kbps unlimited service for about 20 Euro ($31) a month. The company plans to expand coverage to the entire Netherlands in time, a task that will require some 3,000 tower sites, and will cost "hundreds of millions" of dollars, according to Reuters. The network was built by Alcatel-Lucent and partially financed by Intel.
